Good morning Team Lucas:

Good morning Team Lucas:
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for joining us in the fight against cancer.  Lucas is our wicked smart, athletic, witty, perceptive, sensitive soul.  He is the middle child, the one that carved out his niche in the family. He can be gut bustingly funny, deadpan humor. He can play tennis w 10 year olds, in fact coach Dave at Westwood wanted to put him in competitive league this year, which would have made him the youngest kid ever to get in competitive league.  Lucas has an amazing big bro, Jack and a loving little sis, Dylan.  His mommy and him have a special connection, he lets her cuddle with him way more than me, the grizzly bear of the house. He tells her more secrets.  Lucas is honest, transparent, and understands human emotion without  having to know what people say. He is fiercely loyal.  last year, for example when Joe Burrow waved at the crowd at the end of the TX LSU game, he got super poed, and pulled against LSU the rest of the season "Dad hes making fun of us."  He cannot stand OU either.  He loves everything Longhorn, Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics.  Yesterday, one of the nurses said she liked LA Lakers and the Celtics and he said "you cant do that if you like the Celtics." During home schooling he went thru the exercises so fast we had to go up 1-2 grade levels on most every subject. He is a good ping pong, pickle ball, basketball, baseball and tennis player who also loves swimming and the ocean.  He has traveled at his young age to Brasil twice, and Boston pretty much every year of his life.

Lucas was really sick , he had fever over 102 for 8 days in a row before we brought him to Dell, we took him to 4 different doctors because we werent sure what was up.  We had him Covid tested 3 times. On day 8 of fever we made the decision to bring him to Dell Childrens ER.  They ran tests and told us Thursday that he might have leukemia but they didnt know what kind. The next morning they told us he had it and it was called Acute Myeloid Leukemia which has a rarer , harder core treatment protocol than ALL, which is the most common form of leukemia.

We are in the hospital at Dell Childrens, he is in the middle of his second full day of Chemo treatment, the doctors expect us to be here for the next month. AML is very serious, but it is treatable.

I have gotten down more on my knees and prayed the past few days than I probably have in the past few years.  Honestly, I really think this is what we need right now.  We need strength, prayers and love from our friends and community.  We need to build a tribe of prayer warriors on team Lucas.  Like Arya Stark, we need to tell cancer "NOT TODAY."

Lucas is in his bed, he slept well last night. We need the prayers to be centered around lowering his white blood cell count, increasing his hemoglobin and platelet counts.  we are new to this, there isn't a school for this with parents.  This is everything that God gave us to fight this.  I am a fighter, Erin is a fighter, and Lucas is our Braveheart, our Celtic Ironman, our Arya Stark that tells the forces of evil, not today.

We would love to find other families that have specifically had boys in Lucas' age range (6) who we can connect with, join forces with to share intelligence.

Everything we  have done in our lives prepared us for this moment.  All our skills, patience, strategy, calculated risk, love , compassion, tenderness and hardness , the hard things that have happened have paled in comparison to this moment.  This is the moment.  This is the day.  This is THE day, our day to fight this , to pray and to join Lucas in his battle, our battle against cancer.  We will defeat this enemy, we will stand tall and we will stay in the present because that is where God lives.

God bless you all and please pray for our child with everything you have.

Love,

Team Lucas Gourley
