Living on a prayer !

What a lovely day God has given us today. Dr. Aplenc told us today that Lucas’ spinal fluid and bone marrow are both clear of leukemia cells. Miracles do happen.

This morning before he went in for the appointment Lucas and Erin went to Starbucks. Bon Jovi was playing ‘oh-we’re half way there…oh oh we’re living on a prayer’. That about sums up where we are right now! I haven’t heard that song in a long long time. Driving home, ‘Come on feel the noise’ played and Lucas and I jammed out for the first time in awhile in our Kia Soul. We were both happy and smiling. This boy is a champion like no other.

The transplant team will perform cranial and total body radiation as part of the pre transplant conditioning process. Cranial radiation will take place over the end of January and Lucas will be admitted on February 2nd for chemo and and total body radiation. The transplant WILL take place on February 11th.

We could not be more grateful to Doctor Aplenc and the team for getting us to this point all while outpatient. He’s a rockstar doctor who took a different path for Lucas which worked.

There are many potential down the road side effects of radiation. While there has been a lot of fear associated with hearing the risks, we know this is what we need to do to put him in the best position to avoid a relapse.

We believe and will pray that all of these negative effects can be cancelled out because God can make that happen. He has guided us thru this journey and he can perform miracles as we’ve experienced.
