The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda

Positive news - We got Lucas’ scheduled transplant date from CHOP yesterday morning at 11:58.

He will be admitted inpatient on January 11th for transplant on January 21st, 2021.

It had just started snowing, the first snow of the season. Lucas and I had just gotten back from his 3rd day of his 4th round of chemo, which he handled like a champ. My man had just finished doing Khan Academy while he was getting his chemo at clinic. He was excited because at lunch I let him mess around on the Ipad. When I told him he acted like he normally acts, asking questions and then being like 'cool,’ non plussed. Just another day at the office.

The Mandalorian

I had to go upstairs. The reality setting in that this is happening. Erin is in Austin, and sometimes when you receive news like that alone, the grace is really powerful. It hit me hard, still is. He is so vulnerable but so tough at the same time.

We love watching The Mandalorian on Disney+. Sometimes when I carry him around on my shoulders because he gets tired since his hemaglobin levels are so low, or I check his fuzzy head in the middle of the night, or I have to tell him to calm down because he gets super antsy in the back seat of the car, it reminds me of Mando driving the spaceship. The guy carrying around a complete and totally amazing bad ass, but is also his protector. The guy who acts tough but really has a tender heart. The guy who takes no sh$t from the outside when it comes to his little guy, because he knows that his mission is to get him to the promiseland.

Envisioning

Our vision is clear. We want our friends and family to start envisioning Lucas receiving Dylan’s clean and healthy stem cells, to bring them into his body and rebuild his marrow, rebuild his immunity system, kick the cancer completely out of his body and achieve remission. If you pray please make this part of your prayers, along with complete remission at the end of this pre-transplant round with zero infection.

Happy Birthday Gift

The only day that CHOP could get Dylan, (his donor, and 4, going on 8 little sister) in for her pre-harvest workup was December 22nd, Lucas’ birthday. She was very apologetic, but I thought ‘ what a birthday gift. ‘ So on the 22nd , Dylan will become a CHOP patient. We will begin the process of having her checked out, she will meet with anesthesia, she will meet with oncology. Lucas’ birthday gift from Dylan is life, or as Dylan says “I’m giving Lucas my bones.”

Thank You / Go Fund Me

We haven’t written much about it because we want this site and this blog to be purely about Lucas’ journey, but would be remiss if we did not thank everyone for the donations to Lucas’ Go Fund Me page. Our friends started a GFM page for Lucas a few months ago, which we are very grateful for. 408 people have donated, and it just eclipsed $100k in donations last week. From the bottom of our heart we thank you. We use the funds to pay medical bills, rent, groceries, etc. Having the financial stress reduced is an incredible gift that we will be eternally grateful for. Thank you.

One of the sweetest things also happened, Morrison Nacol, the 9 year old son of Samantha Noble and Ryan Nacol started a page for Lucas as well. So sweet and good hearted, thank you to Morrison and the Noble / Nacol family. Here is a link to Morrison’s GFM page for Lucas.

Love to everyone over this holiday season.
